BRC Global Standard –Food (Issue 4, 2005)

Monday, April 13, 2009

The BRC Technical Standard was originally designed for manufacturers supplying own label products.
It has also been used as a basis of supplier approval even when a company is supplying branded products only and in many instances it can be a pre-condition to supply certain companies.
The BRC Global Standard Food Version 4 was published in January 2005 and contained a number of significant changes to reflect changes in legislation.
Interpretation of requirements are more concise and the protocol more extended and detailed.
Food manufacturers are also using this standard as a basis of supplier approval.

BRC -Objectives
sets the minimum standard of hygiene in food manufacturing plants
designed for any supplier, regardless of product or country of origin, that supplies food product to the UK retailers
compliance to this scheme is not a legal requirement but it has been highly recommended by the UK retailers
to comply with the standard, the food supplier / manufacturer must adopt three main criteria in their management system.
